Helen Glading

  • WHAT TRIALISTS/PLAYERS CAN EXPECT?
Quality coaching, quality management and individual and team development, planning, clear objectives, game strategies, challenge, drive, high expectations to be better than you were when you started and perhaps a bit of fun...
  • HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AN EASTIE?
2020 will be my 24th season.
  • TELL US ABOUT YOUR COACHING EXPERIENCE
I started coaching when I was in my early 20's by going back to my roots and coaching Onslow college. It was a fantastic start and a great environment to learn some fundamentals. I then had a break while I focused on playing.  Eventually I took up coaching East 1 after the birth of my first baby and 8 seasons playing in the team. The transition from player to coach was a steep learning curve but one I was well supported through and committed to successfully achieving.
  • WHY NETBALL/EAST CLUB?
I played netball from the age of 8... always loved the sport, the friends I made along the way and the things I learned. East was the club that I got picked in the best team and I never left because of all the other great stuff I got from the club along the way.
  • WHAT ARE ONE OR TWO THINGS THAT YOU BELIEVE ARE IMPORTANT FOR SUCCESS ON COURT?
Game smarts and fitness. I believe both of these things can be coached and improved.
  • FAVOURITE PLAYER? Actually one of my inspirations was Bernice Mene.... most of you youngies will have to Google her but she was an incredible defender who got the most incredible intercepts coming out of the circle.
  • WHAT MAKES YOU LAUGH? Dry English humor and my husband. After 24 years together he still had the ability to crack me up.
  • BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?
It's a marathon not a sprint. This piece of advice has been very useful to me over the years in a variety of circumstances.
  • WHAT DO YOU LOVE TO DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?
Swim...... at the beach, in my pool, with my kids.... without my kids. If it's hot I want to be in water.
  • IF MONEY, TIME, ETC WAS NO ISSUE - WHAT'D BE YOUR DREAM JOB?
I would love to coach people, at netball but also other things. I'm fascinated with great leaders and great teams so I'd love to do that.... help leaders be great so they can build great high performing teams.

  • WHAT TRIALISTS/PLAYERS CAN EXPECT
You can expect that I will not only coach you but provide quality coaching. This year I will be making sure that players in East 3 will develop individually as players, as well as a team, in their fundamental skills, fitness, strength and positional play. You can expect to turn up, be challenged, work hard, learn and have fun doing it.
  • HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AN EASTIE?
East was the first club that I went to upon leaving school. I was recruited by fellow Eastie Cushla Litchwark and I have now been with the club for 12 years. I have been playing throughout this time and this year will be my first year coaching. It really will be East for life!
  • TELL US ABOUT YOUR COACHING EXPERIENCE
For the last 6 years I have been coaching at Wellington Girls College, 4 of which have been with the Senior A team. I am looking forward to the new experience of coaching club netball.
  • WHY NETBALL/EAST CLUB?
East is such a great club and I really think it is the people that make it! The people make you feel welcome, valued and supported. You feel like you are part of a community and I will always have great pride playing for East.
  • WHAT ARE ONE OR TWO THINGS THAT YOU BELIEVE ARE IMPORTANT FOR SUCCESS ON COURT?
I believe that each player needs to be able to do their own job in their position first so they can then work with the rest of the team to implement the game plan. This comes from preparation off the court through intensity, focus and participation at trainings and ownership over own conditioning/fitness.
  • FAVOURITE PLAYER?
Laura Gietz - I have always admired the passion and intensity that she played with on court.
  • WHAT MAKES YOU LAUGH?
    A quality Dad joke
  • BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?
You only live once - so make the most out of every opportunity and experience!
  • WHAT DO YOU LOVE TO DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?
I love to spend time with my family and friends, I love to travel and get outside in the sunshine and take photographs.
